A designated UNESCO biosphere Fakarava is the second largest lagoon in tihs area of atolls and its rectangular reef encloses & protects a rich ecosystem. Fakarava is home to two notable passes that feed into the lagoon The first , Garuae Pass is located to the north and is the widest navigatable pass in french Polynesia. The second is Tumakohua Pass, located on the south side it is home to a narrow valley known as Shark’s Hole. Expect a dive heavy populated with lemon, whitecap and hammerhead sharks.
