The stunning locations that would turn anyone into an eco warrior

November 6, 2019 in Experience

In reality The Islands of Tahiti are as magnificent as the images portray – with crystal clear water, lush greenery, silky-smooth sandy beaches, and the friendliest locals, it’s a destination that everyone really needs to experience, at least once in their lifetime.

Not only does it feel like you’re in a daydream when you step off the plane, but the area is so beautifully kept because the locals are so proud of their surroundings and work hard to preserve the natural habitats of hundreds of land and water species, though conservation programmes and eco initiatives.

Several of the accommodation options that work hard to preserve the local environment include Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, The Brando and  Ninamu Resort.

Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa

Located on Motu Piti Aau of the Bora Bora island group, this resort offers one of the most magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and Mount Otemanu from its stunning thatched roof overwater bungalows, as well as an array of cultural and marine-based activities.

This 5-star luxury resort is not only spectacular due to its surroundings, accommodation, food, and service, but the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa also pioneered the world’s first private Sea Water Air Conditioning (SWAC). This is one of the most sustainable air conditioning technologies, by using cold deep-sea salt water to cool the resort, it means the resort can offer the facility without the use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions.

The Brando

The Brando is a leader in conservation in The Islands of Tahiti. With a number of innovative eco programmes and technologies, The Brando has gained LEED Platinum Certification. Not only using SWAC which reduces energy demands by almost 70%, the resort is fully biofuel capable and has a coconut oil-powered electric plant, organic garden, bee hives, and solar panels. Along with an onsite conservation society which manages sanctuaries and conducts scientific research, all of the resort’s buildings are created using materials that are either recycled, local or of certified origins. Through its dedication to the environment, The Brando has set a new world standard – the resort is very close to reaching its goal of being self-sustainable and carbon neutral.

Just 30 miles northeast of Tahiti, The Brando offers pristine beauty in a unique environment, where the preservation of its surroundings is just as important as the luxury and comfort of guests. With 35 villas of a variety of sizes, The Brando welcomes guests seeking anything from relaxation and tranquility, to family gatherings, and offers each guest the chance to tour its leading conservation initiatives.

Ninamu Resort

Located on Tikehau Atoll, 200miles north by northeast of Tahiti (55 minute flight), Ninamu Resort is hidden on a private island on the southwest side of the atoll. Surrounded by unfathomable beauty, Ninamu Resort is set amongst crisp white (and pink) sand, palm trees and a truly stunning lagoon.

The resort prides itself as a luxury minded outdoor enthusiasts’ retreat. While it offers an abundance of activities for guests to explore the local beauty, the accommodation was hand crafted with only natural, locally sourced materials, with the intention to offer luxury with minimal impact on the environment.

Each of the resorts eight bungalows has its own unique design and character, accommodating guests with all different needs; from a couple, or solo traveller, to groups of friends or large families.
